NHS ESSEX CHILD HEALTH APP

A new App has been put together with health care workers across Essex, which provides self-care and advice to parents of children aged 0-11. It will support parents in knowing what to do if their child is unwell.

It is normal to feel anxious when your child is ill. Sometimes their illness is obvious – they may have visible symptoms such as a runny nose. At other times it isn’t as easy to identify the problem even though you know your child best and can spot if something is wrong. Most illnesses such as sore throats and ear ache get better by themselves but it’s important that parents know what to do if their child is unwell and how to recognise the signs.

The new NHS Essex Child Health app has been designed to give parents, grandparents and carers across Essex NHS advice at their fingertips, to help look after their children’s health and recognise when they are unwell.

The app is free to download for both Android and Apple. Just search for ‘NHS Essex Child Health'

Perinatal mental health and loss support services

  By Your Side Leaflet

The loss of a baby is a devastating experience and one that can bring a range of thoughts, feelings and responses which can feel confusing, bewildering and isolating. By Your Side is a maternal mental health service provided by Essex Partnership University NHS Trust, in collaboration with midwifery colleagues, which offers therapeutic care and grief therapy for people who were pregnant and have experienced a perinatal loss.

If you are struggling with your mental health as a mother or birthing parent and have not suffered a perinatal loss, you can contact our colleagues within the specialist perinatal mental health service, your GP, or Therapy for You. Alternatively, if you have concerns regarding your bond with your baby, you can contact our colleagues from the Together with Baby service.

People who were pregnant and their loved ones affected by any mental difficulty not pertaining to loss can also access community perinatal mental health services, relevant charities or call NHS 111 for mental health crisis.
